I hate that Mustache Man. He’s only in the middle of his speech, by the way.

Well, he’s not the nicest person, but he’s ‘fessing up. In my book it generally counts for something when you take responsibility. I’m still waiting for him to ruin it though with what comes next in his speech
Well, I have to say, I still don’t mind him that much. He’s an idiot, yeah, but he’s still a person, if a little bit fictional. I’d be scared of vampires if they showed up, even if it was to save me from zombies. I mean.. Vampires! Vampires are horrible, horrible things! Ok, so these vampires aren’t like the ones from most mythos, and yes, vampires have been very romanticized, but still! Undead creatures that can kill you by draining your blood is a scary thought.
I have very much been enjoying the comic, especially the more recent ones.
I wasn’t too impressed with Murdo in the beginning, but now he is a pretty amazing guy. That’s some crazy trauma right there.
I agree, in such a very high tension moment, ‘fessing up is quite gutsy.
Of course now they’ll realize that he’s been infected and will die slowly and painfully like we’ve all been waiting for, they will have to decide if they should kill him now
interesting . he takes the blame . saves face for their new protectors . mini-flashback senses tingling . goes out a minor (we despise you but those who know the truth thank you for your sacrifice) hero .. if/when he turns it should be interesting
I’m enjoying this little-life-details care that I can see all around the comic a lot.
Maybe it’s because it’s a webcomic, so there is no need to “save” pages, but I find bobby stops frequently on small details which doesn’t stop the story but are really giving deep sense to the whole.
“OMG I KILLED THEM! *bawl* Y’see, Ma-*hick*-th *sob*, I go-*snivel*-t, I got CORNERED b-by this zo-*hiccup*-mbie that had a face made for r-radio, an’ she was *wipes away snot with his sleeve* lookin’ at me like a slab o-of meat and when I tried punching her in the mouf, s-so that she couldn’t e-eat me ’cause she didn’t have teeth, I-I only scraped myself and the z-zombie chick was PISSED… AND NOW I HAVE A BOO BOO! *sob, wail* And it hurt~~~~!!!!! So I saw Jimmy an’ his m-mom running for their lives and I thought, ‘h-hey! JIMMY’S GOT A GUN! He can defend himself!’ so I… I brought *gasp for air through the sobs* him over to my corner to save me an’ he did an’ his c-cute mom followed an’ he dis-*hiccup*-tracted the z-zombie an’ I ran… I MUST COMMIT SEPPOKU!”
… Sorry… That just… I don’t know. First thing that came to mind.
Mind you that when it goes -*action*-, it happens while he talks. Not many people can stay composed while they sob.
And Bobby, I really don’t know what to say. I’ve tried everything.
Is that blood on his hand? oh I hope he got bitten, they’re is always one jerk/asshole/no one likes, that always make it to the end of the zombie flick but then suddenly dies by a horde of zombie for being a puss…lets hope it happens earlier!
If MM has only been bitten on his hand then it might be possible to amputate from the elbow down and prevent or slow the infection’s onset. As prophesized by Bobby, this would result in a (much deserved) slow and agonizing death. Just my thoughts.
DIE MUSTACHE MAN DIE ME NO LIKEY YOU GRRRRR
plus hes a wuss if i encountered vampires while there was a zombie apocalypse going on id be on my knees asking them to make me a vampire
hehehe zombie apocalypse
33 – 3 = 30 Humans left
Yep thats still enough to give a good varaitety of DNA. But then again you have to keep in mind how many of them are related… Hum.. If too many humans die they will be dead anyway from too much inner breeding.
My ramdom thought of the day.
Sorry man, what i meant was with the Hitler bit.
No, Hitler didn’t actualy commit suicide, he was killed by Ash! Who also happens to now be central to the story.
Not that I don’t like the pic of the bastard getting stabbed. Great shocked expression.
By Eva, I meant Hitler’s wife, they died together…
It was rhetorical question, no worries.
well, it was very crude to give the comment about the nustachioid man…. after that kind of speech, everybody who has ever seen a zombie-flick knows that the guy is going to die.
a horrible death by the hand of millions of zombies, slowly eating him and keeping him alive the longest possible time… or by a plane, swooshing him over the edge, into millions of zombies… that would totally rock… in a brutal way…
or, maybe he will kill himself, in a way that saves the group….
Just let the bald guy with the hatchets turn up at this exact moment, and slaughter them… great comic!
Mac is far too hardcore to die. Especially with Devian’s help.
…Athough, didn’t she get shot in the arm? I’m going to have to go back and find that page again to re-read it.
Anyway, I can’t help but wonder if there’s a back story between Mac and April. I remember just before he left, as I was reading through the archives; it seemed they were pretty close. (I don’t mean in a romantic sense…) I thought that perhaps he was a relative, but all of April’s familay is dead… So maybe they’re just good friends. >.>
I’m sure it’s not important anyway; pretty much me just typing my thought process. Gotta stop doing that.
Jade: They weren’t too close. April didn’t even know that Mac was a golfer. But they respected each other. Mac also played a large role in keeping everyone sane after the zombie outbreak, acting normal for the kids, keeping others in line too, following April’s example.
I’m really enjoying this comic, and I’m wondering why you’ve stopped putting the TopWebComics vote button on the pages. I’ve been going back to the last one, but with every new page that takes more clicks…
And I really like April now. Owen is doing a purrr-fect job.
I like the way people accept that Owen is a great artist. I have to try to find the solution for this The comments are not like “You can’t draw smiles, he looks like he’s faking it”. Instead, they write “Math just can’t smile right, he’s sure up to something”
All the emotions here are so easy to read and true! Characters do all the right things! The future actors are having their work done for them now (pay them less, Bobby)
Yes, Devian got shot in the arm. Vampires heal. Big whoop. We still don’t know what kind of panties Mac got to see. That’s the big question. =D
MM got bit on the hand. He’s so dead. Plus we get to see him get dismembered for killing Jimmy and his Mom. Please, please, please let Murdo do some. He just lost his mom, sister, and nephew. Two of them because of MM.
Bobby. So how exactly is TFZ related to Murdo? Uncle? Grandpa? Father? Enlighten us. Or at least me.
Anyway, I just hopped to TopWebComics.com and imagine my surprise that Last Blood wasn’t in the top 100 any more. That was a lot of surprise right there; but as I went back through the comics to find the last voting button, I came to understand why…
Anyway. I thought I’d mention in passing that it’d be a great idea to have a permanent voting button somewhere nice and easy to find. It’s a great comic after all, and deserves a place in the top 10 in my opinion. ^_^
Wow. I was a little surprised that Jimmy died (before I read the page on which it showed him as a zombie), and now I know why. Well, whatever happens to Mustache Man, he’s not really a major character.
My favorite is Murdo.
And JESUS Bobby, that’s minor? Holy crap, man. Well, it’s cool, not like it ruins everything in between.
just read this from start to finish.. fantastic.. good luck with making a movie (I hope when it’s made it follows the graphic-novel style.. similar visually to what 300/Sin City did), I’ll pay to see it!
anyway, as I’ve just read the whole lot back to back and noticed its updated MWF.. wheres yesterdays?
First off, I just wanted to say that you have done an amazing job writing this comic so far and Owen is an amazing artist. The attention that is paid to every detail is truly amazing in both the drawings and the feeling of the emotions that the comic gives.
I have to show sympathy for you Mr. Crosby for the patience you have shown with answering a lot of the questions and theories that have been thrown around. I have actually spent the last 2-3 hours, before I head to work, reading the comic and just about every comment made and it is truly astounding some of the asinine assumptions people have made and/or have focused on. Don’t get me wrong, I love getting lost in a good story by knowing a good back-story, but there are times when exceptions need to be made given a certain tone or mood set by the atmosphere. The focus right now is obviously not on the individual characters, there is always time for a sequel/prequel/side-story/what have you. The main focus, or correct me if I am wrong, is the current situation of the vampires (ie: they need resources to keep themselves alive, resources that are being rapidly depleted). TFZ already has his army, we all know that already, and to the vampires it’s not about how it happened, why it happened, or who TFZ is, at least not right now. Paying attention to detail is key, yes, but there are different layers of detail to focus on given a story. When Lassie first emerged, did we care about the townsfolk or their history? No! We cared about the dog saving the kid and we let everything else unfold as it happened.
On a side note, anyone who thinks that knowing who TFZ is related to is a big deal.. well it’s not. As already explained before, we knew he was related to SOMEONE already at the town and knowing who he is related to doesn’t change a single thing. He was obviously saving this town because of the fact there was a relative there, sure, but now an even bigger reason is the vampire infestation his only real “threat”, even if it seems to be a very little threat due to his seemingly endless army. Will TFZ show some remorse because April is a relative? He already has shown some slight remorse by letting them stay alive longer than 90% of the world, but given the fact that he’s a Zombie Vampire.. the remorse can only go so far.
As a first time poster, and as of today a first time reader, I would simply like to end this on a happy note saying that this is one of the better comics I have read in a very long time. I can relate with you on several levels, because I have always wanted to write something big myself, but being a perfectionist has lead me to start a few things, but sadly never finish anything. Keep up the good work, although it might be hard you should give yourself a lot more credit.
Argh. Once again, zombies are not just blood starved vampires. ONLY THE FIRST ZOMBIE WAS A BLOOD STARVED VAMPIRE. All the others, the off-shoots of him, the billions of zombies who are not The First Zombie, are just regular zombies.
so let me get this straight, the zombies.. heheh just kidding
incidentally, was trying to find some more info about it.. but are you any further with planning the movie conversion of this comic? I think I remember a comment near the beginning of the comic about sometime 2007 you were hoping to get started.. any updates?
Bobby, what happened to MWF? I know someone asked you about that earlier, but I’m not so sure you answered them. We love the strip and eagerly await the next page. If you don’t intend to publish on that schedule anymore, could you post the new schedule so we know when to check back? Thanks for a great story!
Don’t get me wrong: I would rather live with infrequent updates than none at all for what amounts to really, really good FREE entertainment. Just eager for updates, is all. We all love the work you guys are putting into this! First original horror concept I’ve seen in a while.
Late update is my fault. I hurt my back over the weekend so doing art for LB (which takes up to 10 hours a page) is taking even longer. I can’t sit at my desk for more than an hour. There will be an update soon though. and hopefully another by weeks end.
“So Mustache Man called Jimmy back because he had a gun? I bet the guy who gave Jimmy that gun feels like shit now.”
Nah, he (Grady) feels like the gun saved lots of kids and maybe everyone there, because Jimmy’s shots woke everyone up. They don’t know that the zombies weren’t actually trying to kill them all at this point.
Hope you feel better. Get your friends to bring you beer and brats back from the b-b-q’s today! For the back pain, try Biofreeze. LIke Ben Gay but WAAAY better and doesn’t smell as bad. Order it online or get it from a chiropractor. Order go to a drug store and get any patch w capiscum as the active ingredient. Either one will make the pain go away. I speak from experience.
Great art, btw! Bobby didn’t know, but are the zombies eyes meant to glow?
Sorry Bobby. I completely forgot you said the zombies weren’t supposed to kill the humans. I’m so stupid sometimes. Next time I ask a question like that, just tell me to STFU and look thru the comments. Like this one.
Does TFZ have to have physical contact with the zombies he controls or is it solely psychic? I only ask because you said the zombies weren’t supposed to hurt people, but clearly Jimmy attacks his mom. Or did she do something that he just misinterpreted as aggression?
Remember Bobby. You can tell me to STFU and I will accept it. You are a God among insects. Never forget that.
“Does TFZ have to have physical contact with the zombies he controls or is it solely psychic?”
It’s just psychic, but he at least has to be aware of them more than he was aware of Jimmy being a zombie, which is not at all yet. He’s not all powerful and all knowing. He has to at least see them at some point in order to give specific instructions and make that connection. He can give out some very general thoughts to large groups covering large areas, but nothing as specific as what he’d need to say to Jimmy. And there just wasn’t time, and TFZ didn’t care too much anyway if Jimmy killed some humans. Not a huge deal.
Dammit, Psyche! I just came home from seeing that (the fourth is my birthday, though I’m Canadian, so I don’t get fireworks), and I came here to post that, but you beat me to it! Gah!
But yeah, there’s totally a Mustache Man in Transformers, and also, that movie was amazing.
So much nostalgia about the original cartoon and the good ole toys.. Think I still have a metal Optimus Prime around here somewhere..
Transformers was a hell of a lot better than I expected, although I do have some serious issues with it. Like the serious lack of zombies. And the Gratutitous Product Placement. And some of the dialogue. But mostly the lack of zombies.
Sorry if stumping for this event violates some posting rules or something, but I know a lot of the people running things behind the scenes and everyone is on unoficial assignment to drum up more attendees.
Anyone who wants to say hello IRL and/ or whack me across the back of the head for some past posting should look for the really large/ tall guy on Saturday dressed up as the Monster from ‘Young Frankenstein’.
you might want to consider posting any news considering posting a new page (when it’s coming, why is it late etc) and other important issues below the newest strip, just like you do on +ev. I for one (and I think I’m not the only one) won’t read these comments, since you really can’t avoid any spoilers while scrolling down and searching for news.
In 11 months “+EV” has had one strip ever not come out on time (last week) and I knew specifically when the next one would be up. In this case I don’t know when the next LB will go up. Owen hurt his back and it’s tough for him to sit and draw for long periods of time right now. I assume there will be a new page within 48 hours, but don’t know. It’s no big deal. You’ll see it when it comes up. Feel free to check the site once a month if you want and then read through lots of pages. Better reading experience that way anyway.
Very nice comic. A friend told me about it and i’m a little miffed I didn’t find it sooner and also peeved I didn’t find it when it was already finished so I could read it all the way through .
I tried to stay away from the comments because of spoilers but I just had a thought. It would be interesting if MM (gary?) turns out to be a good guy. The story would take an interesting turn if you can show how people have redeeming qualities and that even the best of us can turn. Say, have Mac brood over the loss of his mom/sister/nephew and turn on them in the end.
Thats just if you’re going for that type of thing though.
wise idea (to save harassing the poor fella) would be to sign up for the RSS comic feed.. i’ve got it on my google home and it’ll update with a new story when a new comic is posted (I do this for +EV and MM too)
It’s true: my zombie/vampire novel Roses of Blood on Barbwire Vines features vampires that are “protecting” humans from zombies. But they’re protecting them the way a shepherd protects his flock from wolves. I don’t know if that’s the case here–I just stumbled upon this site while Googling my book title–but if it is, no big deal. Just about every concept has already been thought of; writers just need to contribute a fresh spin.
Anyway, good luck with this. The art is awesome, and I love the title.
D.L.: Hey, thank you very much. I plan on checking out your book at some point. I tried to search for similar things before writing the story and couldn’t find anything. A hard topic to search for on Google, really, I guess. I think another major difference between the stories is probably the focus on the zombies (which you’ll see later) and their new origin, which I’m pretty darn sure has never been used by any other story, but who knows. Also, yes, this story doesn’t have the vampires protecting the humans like a shepherd protects his flock. In my story they’re trying to earn their trust and treat them nicely, partly to ward off suicide. Another big difference might be that in my story the humans are the last surviving people on Earth — not sure if that’s the case in yours. Thanks again for the good luck wishes and good luck with your writing.
Bobby, click on my name to visit the Roses of Blood website, http://www.rosesofblood.com . I’ve posted sample chapters, character descriptions, reviews, and a teaser video.
You should also check out my publisher’s message board, http://www.permutedpress.com/smf . If you post some of your work, he (Jacob Kier) might keep you in mind for a book cover!
I was reading a few pages of Last Blood–it’s great, by the way; the illustrations are atmospheric, gory, and emotive–and even though my humans are also the last alive, there are vast differences between your story and mine. Keep up the good work!
“Last Blood is a horror comic written by Bobby Crosby and illustrated by Owen Gieni”
Oops! I guess I should have read this before assuming you (Bobby) were the artist. Sorry ’bout that. So Owen is definitely a candidate for Permuted book covers, and you, Bobby, you might keep an eye on the submission guidelines. Do you write short stories?
Just a continuity thing. Mustache guy punches the zombie chick with his left hand on the next page. On this page his right hand is bloody. I imagine it wouldn’t be too hard to do a horizontal flip of the image in Photoshop and fix this…
