Page 102: Last Words
Wednesday, November 21st, 2007Addison’s last words directly relate to the first sequel, which will follow along with the current characters while also featuring “Lost” style flashbacks to past events, focusing on the origin of The First Zombie (s) from a certain character’s point of view who we haven’t yet met (but will very soon). There’s a 97% chance now that the second graphic novel will begin within two months, hopefully by Christmas.

Poor Addison.. poor Devian.
Sofia? I can’t wait to see more on THAT.
November 22nd, 2007 at 12:59 am
Must be hard to move the chains out of the way like that.
And he died with a straight face. Kudos. Or maybe those glasses/goggles stopped it from showing? w/e.
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:04 am
OH HE FUCKING DID NOT.
ADDISON F. PAYNE!!! *cry*
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:07 am
NOOOOOOO
His last words are hopeful though, i like that.
Also, the emotions of the others are portrayed beautifuly, especialy the tears on Devian’s face.
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:07 am
Kudos for no elaborate death trap, no over-gloating, and simply getting the job done. Villains world wide could do with lessons from Mr Whiney-pants in how to kill your enemies.
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:10 am
“Villains world wide could do with lessons from Mr Whiney-pants in how to kill your enemies.”
You might change your tune after reading Page 104!
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:15 am
AAAAAwwwww Man! AFP is no more… Now I’m sad. Lol. What is all the rubish about sofia and the second empire?
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:30 am
Shit he didn’t just do what i think he did, did he? WLB just ordered up a big ‘ol plate of retribution… just have to see who will be dishing it out… Haven’t seen Rage around in the last few pages, or did I miss him getting staked?
Bobby, Owen love the comic, been reading since page 22 was published, and it’s been a heap of awesome all the way. Keep it up, can’t wait to see the movie!
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:34 am
Dang, I want to win that tournament. It’s a shame I’m broke and can’t play poker.
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:37 am
We knew it was coming but it still doesn’t prepare you. I hope someday you might get around to a spin off about AFP. Also he will be in the spin-off right?
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:38 am
heh, I wouldn’t be surprised if AFP had his heart (re)moved so it couldn’t be staked. He just seems like the kind of guy that would think that far ahead.
And Bobby, I know that it’s largely a matter of “I say it’s so, so it’s so.” But these days anything that can’t be explained in some way is generally considered a plot hole by us regular folk. That’s why I suggested explaining it a little differently. It gives you an explanation people can’t argue with at all, and shuts people like myself up.
Also, it’s stated in the comic that Math had a harder time smelling the zombies when they went underground, so there is at least *some* respect for the laws of science there.
As for textbook definition plot holes… If Francis was the whiny lil punk they all knew him to be, and they knew he hated vampires/held a grudge over Val, why was Sullivan their first guess when the general consensus is that he was a swell guy?
Why didn’t Sullivan tell anyone what Francis was up to when he found out? If he wanted to stop Francis, surely it would have been a good idea to warn someone who would listen. For that matter, why didn’t he just go stake him then and there and put an end to it before it began? Even if he has to search the ocean floor… he’s got 65 years to get the job done.
Seriously, those are the only ones that spring to mind that I can’t recall being answered before (But I don’t always read every single comment.)
Oh, and Bobby, it really would take a long time to penetrate all the bunkers where government/military personnel would be hiding. Sure, they might not test most of those facilities with nukes, but they have extensively tested nukes, and know the kind of damage they can inflict. Nukes won’t necessarily solve all the problems there. Neither will turning the surface into a radioactive wasteland. Those bunkers are last-resort hidey-holes, and are designed so the people in them can live long (if not full) lives in them when the world goes to hell. For all intents and purposes, they’re dead to the world because they can’t come out, but they aren’t really *Dead* dead yet. And zombies would be no better at breaking in than regular humans would be. If regular humans were breaking in, they would be taking shifts working at it, so you’d need more, but they could still work around the clock. The only difference is that zombies aren’t afraid to get shot when they finally break the doors down.
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:47 am
“If Francis was the whiny lil punk they all knew him to be, and they knew he hated vampires/held a grudge over Val, why was Sullivan their first guess when the general consensus is that he was a swell guy?”
For the same reason why it’s called SULLIVAN’S TUNNEL. Francis was barely remembered by anyone or cared about by anyone. Sullivan was the sports star and the war hero, while Francis was just second best and a whiny jerk. And Sullivan was the name Math saw and the person he learned “died” while fighting in the Pacific in World War II — it all fit. Your questions make it sound like you haven’t actually read the comic.
“Why didn’t Sullivan tell anyone what Francis was up to when he found out?”
All of this has been answered in the comments and very recently. And that will obviously be answered in the COMIC as well, but the sequels/prequels will answer it more thoroughly. I don’t even understand your question, though. Sullivan was the person being told about this, not the one to be telling others. Then he had no time to react basically.
“Even if he has to search the ocean floor… he’s got 65 years to get the job done.”
Ugh, Google it. Had long discussions about this recently. If you never find him, THE WORLD DIES, so the backup plan is to make another schaemiac with the powers to fight him. It’s complicated.
“Those bunkers are last-resort hidey-holes, and are designed so the people in them can live long (if not full) lives in them when the world goes to hell.”
Nothing is stopping all the resources of the world from getting in them and getting in them quickly.
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:48 am
Sofia… that’s the name of the capital of Bulgaria. This is where I spent the summer this year.
Maybe it is related to that 12th Century Schaemiac, and maybe not… but I would love to learn something more about it.
I will be eagerly waiting for the sequel. Keep up the excellent work
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:54 am
*Is in shock* Too bad I suck at poker and such. When Owen said surprise my mind instantly went to AFP.
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:54 am
“Maybe it is related to that 12th Century Schaemiac”
Hmmmmmmmm.
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:58 am
That “hmmmm” sounded somewhat creepy
Ok, I guess I should not ask for spoilers.
November 22nd, 2007 at 2:02 am
Um, click on the “Hmmmmmmm”!
November 22nd, 2007 at 2:24 am
I did, I did
You know, the first time I read about that ancient Schaemiac, I was quite surprised – I never imagined a graphic novel about zombies could mix with Bulgarian history (having in mind not many people outside the country are interested in it).
It was a very pleasant surprise, for sure. I already liked the comic a lot, and that only increased my enjoyment.
I have already heard numerous urban legends about ancient ruins and a whole network of crypts running under my home town… after reading Last Blood, I can easily imagine that all those ancient tunnels are heavily zombie-infested – remnants of the Second Empire, in a way
I will keep an eye on the comic for sure.
Cheers
November 22nd, 2007 at 2:25 am
“hmmmmmmmm” that is a very intriguing comment…..can’t wait to see how it goes…
another great page drawn by owen, the tears of Devian and the smoke from staked AFP…..
November 22nd, 2007 at 2:30 am
OMG. This is just…. awesome. You’re a genius… Can’t wait to see what happens next
November 22nd, 2007 at 2:47 am
Refreshing to see that not all completely awesome characters are invincible. So long AFP.
Great story Bobby, and fantastic artwork Owen. Mad props to you both.
November 22nd, 2007 at 3:04 am
I hope its not the last time we heard about AFP
November 22nd, 2007 at 3:49 am
Thats a pretty neat way to pick a guest character. It’s not something I can take part in thou as I’m utterly sworn off gambling, that and coffee.
November 22nd, 2007 at 4:51 am
fucker.. didn’t see that coming.. so glad I rarely read the spoilers
I’ll miss Vals breasts though.. may they rest in peace
November 22nd, 2007 at 4:51 am
I tend not to comment on anything, thinking I have generally little to add. But today’s comic has forced my hand:
Well done, sir. A well-written comic is one that can kill a character that has only been present for not even a fifth of the storyline, and still make the reader visibly cringe when he dies. This instance was of a novel-esque quality, as in the end of ‘A Fine Balance’. Good job, though insufficient, is the best I can say.
November 22nd, 2007 at 4:56 am
oh, sorry for the double post but i forgo to add… keep up the mspaint mash stuff.. i love seeing how you see it in your head and comparing it side-by-side to how owen translates your drawings.. thumbs up fella!
November 22nd, 2007 at 5:09 am
Just *had* to post this when I saw it on the Beeb (I am bad computer user, so I have no idea how to make it a link). If you’re looking for extras, you may want to look this up:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/check/player/nol/newsid_7100000/newsid_7106800?redirect=7106883.stm&news=1&nbram=1&bbwm=1&nbwm=1&bbram=1&asb=1
Also, on a side note, absolutely love this – stunning artwork, well-written storyline. If this gets released as a movie, *please* let it come to the UK!!
November 22nd, 2007 at 5:09 am
Lunatic: Glad you enjoy it. You should know that the scripts often add a lot of detail as well, stuff that either I couldn’t draw or there just wasn’t room for in the sketch. Sometimes I forget things and add them later too, like about the smoke rising from the stake. I somehow forgot about it and had to send Owen a second e-mail about it later on, asking him to include the smoke in Panel 9.
Cookie: The video wouldn’t play for me, but sounds like a cool zombie walk!
EDIT: Got it working — that’s cool.
November 22nd, 2007 at 5:27 am
Holy mosses AFP goes out like a true champ, No tears, no Plea for mercy.
And does this mean that there’s an even more evil zombie army?
Or maybe even a zombie army thats good.
Bobby you’re just awesome
November 22nd, 2007 at 6:01 am
Well since I was born in Bulgaria in the capital of Sofia and since I like this comic, it is even more fun to speculate.
How much longer till Sullivan and his 3000 zombies get to the scene?
November 22nd, 2007 at 6:01 am
aw man, now I’m dying to figure out what’s happening in Sophia. I wonder how AFP planned to deal with getting staked in the heart…bet its going to be a surprise for everyone.
November 22nd, 2007 at 6:02 am
Dan: They’re about two and a half minutes away right now.
November 22nd, 2007 at 6:05 am
I WISH I KNEW HOW TO PLAY POKER!! (*stabs himself in the heart*)
November 22nd, 2007 at 6:08 am
Hey, anybody can get lucky and win. I won the very first tournament I ever played and it was against 1,173 people. I had only seen a bit of poker on TV before that tournament, had never played. You’ll have significantly less competitors on Sunday — only around 30 probably.
November 22nd, 2007 at 7:05 am
Same here, I have never even picked up a hand of poker cards much less know how to play, to the internet!!!!!
November 22nd, 2007 at 7:13 am
“Addison’s last words directly relate to the first sequel”
Screw addison, Sequel sequel sequel!!!
November 22nd, 2007 at 7:14 am
“Dan: They’re about two and a half minutes away right now.”
Couldn’t Francis smell Sullivan’s zombies coming? Why would he wait so long to kill everybody or at least make an escape with his prize?
Anyways I want to hear more about Sofia. A Bulgarian vampire right?
November 22nd, 2007 at 7:19 am
Someone commented about how bunkers are stocked for long term survival in them. True. But a bunker is only as good as it is hidden. Nothing in the world can survive a direct nuke hit. So Francis has a hoodie-zombie head to washington first and “accidentally” scrape infect either the secretary of defense or one of his personal guard secret service men. Meanwhile, the same process happens to Russia’s defense man. Meanwhile the same happens in England. Worldwide travel in under a day, man. Now that all the people who know where the bunkers are have been zombricated, you just have them drop some warheads on them and that’s that. Really, there are no holes in Francis’ plan at all, besides teensy ones that can be remedied as simply as biting someone else or getting some new clothes.
November 22nd, 2007 at 7:20 am
“Couldn’t Francis smell Sullivan’s zombies coming?”
Yes, but he can’t wrap his brain around even the possibility of what it actually is. He smells zombies moving fast and he just assumes they’re his and that maybe his concentration is of course fading and causing weird things to happen because his mind is so fucked up right now, having just killed the only girl who ever loved him and now killing the smartest person ever born, and trying to decide if he should completely finish off the job and wipe out ALL OF HUMANITY FOR FOREVER AND EVER. Hard to think straight in a time like this. The emotions will be a lot more clear in the movie. It’ll be a real “THIS IS IT, THE END OF EVERYTHING” feel.
“A Bulgarian vampire right?”
All I’m saying is that it’s a schaemiac in Bulgaria. Not gonna spoil too much of the second GN for a while, if ever.
November 22nd, 2007 at 7:23 am

Yeah, but I’m Argentinian and here we use a different deck, “la baraja española” and I play Truco or Escoba del 15, not poker (*sad face*)

Oh, MAN, AFP, we hardly knew ya
I love the artwork on this – the various expressions of shock and dismay as the vampires realize that Francis plans to kill Addison (even Devian’s muted dismay is beautifully done, and her tears at the end – lovely!) – I can just feel the heart-ache everyone is feeling. Wonderful art, Owen, and GREAT WRITING, Bobby. Wow. But, DAMN I hate to see AFP go. He was an awesome character. *sigh*
November 22nd, 2007 at 7:32 am
Sorry for the double post – but Szyronn Says:
> the smoke from staked AFP…..
I don’t see any smoke . . . Where do you see smoke? Maybe the folks considering the heart removal thing are onto something? Hmm? Since we can’t see his eyes . . . Hope springs eternal and all that . .
*sigh*
November 22nd, 2007 at 7:34 am
There is smoke, 6th panel. It goes up through Addyson’s face, watch carefully and you’ll see it.
November 22nd, 2007 at 7:37 am
There’s always smoke when a vampire is staked — was smoke for Caitlyn and Val too. The stake becomes white hot right when it pierces a vampire’s heart. Another thing that will show up a lot better in the movie. Oh, and there’s zero hope for Addison. He will only ever appear in flashbacks/prequels from now on. He’s dead.
November 22nd, 2007 at 7:54 am
Well damn, humanity is screwed now. I mean even after we get out of this mess without AFP to keep us from getting wiped out, I mean really, how long can we last?
Great work by the way Bobby, I’ve been reading for a long time and am really enjoying it.
November 22nd, 2007 at 8:02 am
Well, I won’t say poor AFP… Because he knew it was coming, and he lived over 2000 years anyway. Rest well, oh king of cool. We will miss you, until Sullivan shows up… And then another comic starts… ::Cheers and claps while no one is looking:: Ahem. That will be all. Happy Turkey Day!
November 22nd, 2007 at 8:09 am
Probably AFP has his memories written down, or some kind of student. His teachings will survive trillions of WLBs.
November 22nd, 2007 at 8:11 am
Bobby and Owen, you guys are genius.
Just glad its as a survivor and not getting eaten by a zombie!
I’ve been reading since the first few pages, and decided I should finally get a word in since the comic is almost over.
Absolutely love everything about every page done. Great story and great artwork.
I’m going to try and make my boyfriend (since hes great at poker) join that tournament and win so I can be in the comic
Sad to see Addison go, but we know his death leads to victory. Cant wait to see if anything happens with Math and April
November 22nd, 2007 at 8:21 am
“Cant wait to see if anything happens with Math and April”
Math and April are sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G! XD
November 22nd, 2007 at 9:23 am
KJDGSFHAGJKLAS!!!

*TEAR*
I miss you and val, it’s like a vampire killing spree…
wait…
…
dammit.
November 22nd, 2007 at 9:23 am
Hmmmm.
If a vampire is without blood for 64 years, then tastes some does he just become a zombie?
November 22nd, 2007 at 9:38 am
Can Sullivan (being another schaemiac?) control the zombies turned by Francis? Or only his ‘own minions’???
November 22nd, 2007 at 9:46 am
NO! Addison Fucking Payne! We hardly knew ye.
November 22nd, 2007 at 9:48 am
About time the high-and-mighty died… gooooo TFZ… to bad he is gonna get his whimpy butt kicked soon…
Interested in hearing more of the Empire and Sofia.
November 22nd, 2007 at 9:49 am
“Can Sullivan (being another schaemiac?) control the zombies turned by Francis? Or only his ‘own minions’???”
No.
November 22nd, 2007 at 10:04 am
Schaemiac and zombies in Bulgaria, Dracula and vampires in Romania… geez, as if the talassâm (a local folklore monster) weren’t enough…
See what you’ve done? After this chapter, my curiosity is burning me even harder!!!
November 22nd, 2007 at 10:10 am
NOOOOOOOOOO AFP DDD:

November 22nd, 2007 at 10:14 am

Now I’m curious about what’s in that suitcase. I bet it’s cheese.
November 22nd, 2007 at 10:37 am
Sorry if I missed it but, does the tournament cost money to play?
November 22nd, 2007 at 10:48 am
Kalisto: Now I’m curious about what’s in that suitcase. I bet it’s cheese.
In the suitcase is a cure for vampirism
November 22nd, 2007 at 11:16 am
Possibilities I can think of.
1. Suitcase was a suitcase bomb. Deadmans switch on AP is triggered. BANG
2. Suicide Stakes
3. Embryos
4. Zombie Cure
5. Vampire Cure
6. Last Instructions.
Thats all I can think of. I want an email if I’m right.
November 22nd, 2007 at 11:32 am
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!1!11ELEVENTYONE!1!!
Aw, APF was awesome. We will miss him. I like how he died with a bad-ass look on his face. And the panel of vampire’s faces? Owen deserves a big kudos for it.
November 22nd, 2007 at 11:54 am
I really like how Devian’s tears running down her face mirror the smoke rising up from Addison’s chest. Now that Addison is dead, is his super-intelligence permanantly lost to the world, or is there some posibility of other smart vampires being formed? Did Addison Payne use any sort of backup plan, like the ones I suggested earlier (http://www.lastblood.net/main/2007/11/15/page-99-whiny-little-bitch/#comment-9796)? The way I see it, in this comic, advanced modern technology, both the essential sort which we can use to counter new threats (eg virulent disseases) and stay alive, and the sort that vastly improves our quality of life, was completly dependant on Mr Payne’s smarts. In the long run, without him, or without some replacement for him, we are doomed. Could many merely very smart vampires doo the same quality of work as one super-brilliant vampire?
While I (hopefully) have the attention of some authorative question-answerers (ie Bobby) there are a few other questions about the feasibility of various ways of excecuting vampires (or schaemiacs). Would driving a very tiny stake (like a toothpick) into their heart kill them? What about many tiny stakes? If I loaded a shotgun with wood chips, and shot a vampire in the chest, would they die? Would a vampire die if I shot them with a powerfull stake gun, and the stake whent completly through their heart and out the other side? Would a vampire die slowly (and painfully) if I were to drive a stake through their heart slowly? Could a bamboo stake kill a vampire? If I were to tie a vampire down, and plant some bamboo under them, would it kill them? Most of the growth of a bamboo plant occurs about 12 inches below the top, and the heat would probably only kill the very top. If I were to completly crush a vampire’s heart with a wooden instrument, would this kill them? If I were to sclice their heart in half, then lay it on a wooden surface, would this kill them?
These questions regarding the feasibility of various ways of killing vampires are mostly idle (and somewhat morbid) speculation, but I really would like to know if we can develop a sustainable technologically advanced society without Mr Payne, and if so, how.
November 22nd, 2007 at 11:58 am
“Thats all I can think of. I want an email if I’m right.”
Sorry, I’m dying to ask you a question. Why did you list 6 possibilities for what is in the case when nohface just explained in the comment before yours?
November 22nd, 2007 at 12:08 pm
some glimmer of intelligence in wlb there … but by addisons words he has lost already so his act is nothing more than the actions of a wlb …. two and a half minutes is plenty of time for him to gloat and congratulate himself … i think that is going to be the longest two and a half minutes of the entire move … as if addison didn’t have this probability mapped out and ready to exploit …
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:15 pm
I too am from Bulgaria and have been enjoying the comics for nearly a month.(Although not commenting:)).I admire the writer’s creativity and the artist’s work.
Bulgaria was mentioned in previous strips about some vampire conflict in 12th century I think. It was the time of the Second Tzardom(It is called like that here, foreigners call the country Empire.I think Empire is right if we look at the meaning of the word, but still Tzardom(ЦарÑтво)).The capital then was Preslav,Sofia has been the capital since 1878 when a part of the nowadays Bulgaria was freed after a Russian-Ottoman war.So I think that Sofia will be some kind of a beign, maybe some special human,or who knows.
The word “sofia” means “wisdom” and comes from Greek. The city itself was founded by the Thracians, later conquered by many others, and Emperor Constantine even though of making it the “New Rome” before he made Byzantium his choice.
So,we await with anticipation to see Addyson’s scheme:)
November 22nd, 2007 at 1:41 pm
That’s funny, in Brazil we do not use the spanish deck to play truco. IMHO It’s better than poker, although i like thhis game as well.
Oh, and I’m kinda sad for AFP. =(
November 22nd, 2007 at 2:51 pm
I need more !!!! This comics are really good.. I can’t wait to read the next page !!
November 22nd, 2007 at 3:18 pm
Well, you are in Brazil my garoto friend, and you don’t even speak Spanish, so why use the Spanish deck? Probably you use the French one.
PD: I’m sick tired of reading stupid comments like “whats in the suitcase”, why don’t you (Bobby) create moderators so we can redirect those (**idiots**) lazy, LAZY, people to the FFAQ (Fucking Frequently Asked Questions). That way you can save on bandwidth and time you could use on more comics.
I offer myself, and probably Anko would love that too.
November 22nd, 2007 at 3:25 pm
Hey bobby, question that has been bugging me for a while…
The story about the schaemiac in Bulgaria, did you come up with that, or was there something like it in a story you once heard?
Also i think that the little black kid should have a ‘fro in the movie. Cause that would be awesome.
November 22nd, 2007 at 3:40 pm
I feel worse for Devian than I do for AFP. His death is dignified; she just looks… sad. Though, I just thought of a somewhat random question, looking at her and the “punk-rocker” vampire again. (I looked it up and didn’t find that someone had asked it previously; I’m sorry if I missed it.)
How can the vampires have earrings and the like? You (Bobby) mentioned that Math was shot in the chest and healed just fine; I think I also remember Devian being born as a vampire (though I might be wrong on that.) Does their skin just grow around the earrings as best it can? Could they be removed? The question isn’t particularly important, so I’ll take a, “Doesn’t matter,” answer if you’d rather.
November 22nd, 2007 at 3:46 pm
…WHOA. Did NOT see that coming…
Did Addison know he was going to die?
November 22nd, 2007 at 3:55 pm
“How can the vampires have earrings and the like? Does their skin just grow around the earrings as best it can? Could they be removed? The question isn’t particularly important, so I’ll take a, “Doesn’t matter,†answer if you’d rather.”
If he got the earrings as a human, they can’t heal. If he just putted them on by brute force as a vampire, he can’t heal while the metal is there. If he removes them they heal. You know, that happens with HUMANS TOO, try to get pierced and don’t wear the piercing. The hole will close itself eventually.
November 22nd, 2007 at 4:41 pm
Krasno: If I remember correctly, a vamp can choose whether or not it wants to heal an injury, i.e. why Francis Sr. still has an enormous gaping head wound.
November 22nd, 2007 at 4:43 pm
“If a vampire is without blood for 64 years, then tastes some does he just become a zombie?”
No. I haven’t decided exactly what happens, but there’s a decent chance that they’d actually just be back to a normal vampire, although probably not. They wouldn’t become a schaemiac anymore, of course, since they didn’t go 65 years, but maybe they’d be a vampire who would always be in pain or something. I have no plans for that to come into play at the moment, so I’ll figure it out if I ever put something like that in the story.
“Sorry if I missed it but, does the tournament cost money to play?”
Yes, that’s called the buy-in, as mentioned in the link in my post up there that goes to all the details on the tournament. Costs $5.50 to play — $5 goes to the prize pool that you can win if you do well in the tournament, 50 cents goes to the house (Full Tilt) for hosting the tournament. There are various ways to deposit money onto the sites, but it’s easier for foreigners than Americans. I don’t have much money on Full Tilt right now, but if anyone’s having trouble depositing and wants to play, I could probably do at least two trades of $5.50 on Full Tilt for $5.50 on PayPal. Let me know.
Herb: You’re greatly overestimating the need for Addison’s Payne’s brain in the current world of the comic. He was mostly needed to fight major diseases that spring up every once in a while and to tip the balance in major conflicts that had the chance to kill insanely large amounts of people. He spent most of his time just having fun inventing things, like planes. Keep in mind that the world went from a tiny amount of people to a large amount of people without his help — the first humans — and the current survivors are a hell of a lot better off than they were. They can of course still use most of the current technology in the world. It’s not like it’s lost to them forever. There are still drug stores full of medicine out there which will last a while, and there’s gotta be at least one doctor vampire who can help with various things. They’d be OK without Addison. He was a super smart guy and now he’s dead. Mostly confused by the comments about his intelligence being lost to the world. Also, vampires die from any piece of wood going through their heart, through one side and out the other. I don’t care to go into any more detail than that for now.
“so we can redirect those (**idiots**) lazy, LAZY, people to the FFAQ”
I only want people to read spoilers if they absolutely want them. Some people like to post their speculation here without reading the other comments because they don’t want to be spoiled. That’s perfectly fine. And no moderators necessary.
“The story about the schaemiac in Bulgaria, did you come up with that, or was there something like it in a story you once heard?”
Only thing I knew about Bulgaria before writing this story is that they film a lot of low budget movies there. I needed a place for a schaemiac attack to be contained in the 12th century and Bulgaria sounded like a good place for that.
“How can the vampires have earrings and the like?”
It’s mostly mental. The vampire brain subconsciously controls the healing process and only fixes things that are clearly wounds or injuries that they don’t want. If the brain sees it as jewelry and something they want, it’s allowed.
“Did Addison know he was going to die?”
He figured he most likely would, yes.
vlad: Schaemiacs have much more control over those things than regular vampires. Schaemiacs can just plain choose to do it easily, but vampires have to know it subconsciously, has to be embedded into their brains. A vampire could not choose for a stab wound to the leg to not heal, for example. Not even Rage probably.
November 22nd, 2007 at 5:45 pm
About the 64 years thingie, I believe that they wouldn’t become Schaemiacs, but since you already said that they can’t heal during that conversion, it’s most likely that they can’t heal the rotten and broken parts of their body. They would be handicap vampires. (LOL, just pictured a vamp in a wheelchair)

Aw, I just looked at the MS paint sketch, and that’s the last time we’re going to see Val’s breast? What a shame. ‘There’s a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, It’d be a shame to waste yours’

I wonder how many hits does LastBlood get every week…

Click that little blue planet looking thing at the very bottom of the site and all of your questions will be answered.
November 22nd, 2007 at 7:24 pm
Ok, off topic question:
A stake through the heart obviously kills a vampire. But what if someone has an artificial heart before being turned into a vampire? No real heart, just some plastic and metal. Can they still be killed in the usual manner?
November 22nd, 2007 at 7:39 pm
Can’t be turned into a vampire if you have an artificial heart. Need a real one.
November 22nd, 2007 at 8:15 pm
So… im guessing that the whole second empire and sophia thing was just made up as you went along?
November 22nd, 2007 at 8:21 pm
I think before I even wrote Page 1 I knew that they would be saved in the end by another schaemiac, one who would be mentioned at least twice beforehand from long ago. I decided on Bulgaria when writing Page 32 and settled on the 12th century when writing Page 66. I forgot exactly when (and don’t care to look it up at the moment), but it was around four months ago that I decided to change it so it wasn’t the Bulgarian schaemiac who saved everyone, but instead Sullivan Davis, while Sullivan’s best friend was the evil First Zombie. Originally Sullivan was going to be the evil First Zombie. That’s all I’ll say for now.
November 22nd, 2007 at 8:25 pm
The way AFP looked down at the stake it looked as if he was thinking “Whiny little bitch wrinkled my damn shirt”
November 22nd, 2007 at 8:31 pm
Waaaah…..Addison Fucking Payne is dead! At least he went out like a man. With a straight face and powerful last words. “Don’t ruin my shirt, dammit!” would have also been appropriate/
November 22nd, 2007 at 8:33 pm
Oh. I’d also like to state to Owen that TFZ’s expression in the first panel makes him look like a zombie-whiny little bitch, which he is.
So awesome artwork. =D
November 22nd, 2007 at 9:27 pm
Cool, cool. That makes sense; thank ye kindly. 8)
November 22nd, 2007 at 9:36 pm
Ahem….NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! *cough*
November 22nd, 2007 at 10:06 pm
It was a good choice to change the “good” TFZ to a character we’ve heard more about and seen referenced. If some Bulgarian relic had swooped in at the last second and saved everyone that would have been really cheesy.
November 22nd, 2007 at 10:28 pm
Well, it’s complicated. A combination of things save them and it would have been done differently if it was the Bulgarian schaemiac scenario. It would have been more just totally setting up the sequel and it would have less of a resolution.
November 22nd, 2007 at 10:43 pm
I’m curious how many of the Vampires were holding it together with the thought. “Were in trouble, but Payne will save us, he must have something planned!” And now have the grim reality of their situation kicking in.
With Val and Paine dead is there anyone left that knows/suspects Sullivans on his way?
November 22nd, 2007 at 10:56 pm
Val had no clue that Sullivan was on his way, didn’t even know if the schaemiac was Francis for sure, until she heard Sullivan’s name on Page 65 or whatever it was. Only Addison knew about both of them.
November 22nd, 2007 at 11:15 pm
How could he die? HES ADDISON FUCKING PAYNE! Pretty epic though
I like how TFZ isn’t all like ‘oh your my nemesis but im gonna let you live after telling you my epic plan’ Great stuff!
November 22nd, 2007 at 11:43 pm
“I’m curious how many of the Vampires were holding it together with the thought. “Were in trouble, but Payne will save us, he must have something planned!†And now have the grim reality of their situation kicking in.”
Probably everyone. Except Rage. He loves torture.
November 22nd, 2007 at 11:53 pm
Sorry, I know it’s been asked, but where did the word “schaemiac” come from and how do you pronounce it ?
November 23rd, 2007 at 12:14 am
maybe Payne has his heart on his right side, there are rare occasion I think one out of 100,000 or a million I forget that people are born with hearts on their right side instead of left
November 23rd, 2007 at 12:20 am
oh I mean if there’s a chance Payne isn’t dead this might be one, just throwing it out there
November 23rd, 2007 at 12:45 am
No. Sorry mate, he’s dead. Even if it hadn’t been said a million times that he’s dead, the proof that his heart got staked is in the fact that it smoked. Pay attention.
November 23rd, 2007 at 12:55 am
Well the heart is in the directly in the center of the thorax for everyone (minus birth defects etc). It is just the left ventricle, which is larger due to Systemic circulation (where oxygenated blood is pumped to the whole body) that causes the stronger heart beat on the left side etc.
Either way with no clear frontal shot of where AFP has been stabbed (from the 5th panel it appears pretty central) it is unlikely that Jae’s statement is valid. So unless AFP has done some home surgery on himself…..
November 23rd, 2007 at 1:00 am
And to clarify: ‘no clear frontal shot of where AFP has been stabbed’ = obviously he has been stabbed in his chest…
Plus the biggest clue would of course be Bobby posting above:
‘Oh, and there’s zero hope for Addison. He will only ever appear in flashbacks/prequels from now on. He’s dead. ‘
November 23rd, 2007 at 1:59 am
AFP was asking for it. Should be obvious to anybody without a rotting brain that he needed to get staked at that point.
November 23rd, 2007 at 5:13 am
“Also, vampires die from any piece of wood going through their heart, through one side and out the other. I don’t care to go into any more detail than that for now.”
Besides the detail that TFZ/WLB now has his back to darling April the unchained while facing the vamps and quite likely will also be doing the same when Sullivan makes his appearance? Saw that one coming a few pages ago when the scene was set up.
I’m figuring you need Sullivan and zombies on hand, otherwise Francis’ zombies will start attacking again after he dies. Sullivan’s can defend against the “local” uncontrolled zombies while the ones further away shamble randomly about.
November 23rd, 2007 at 7:18 am
“This is our last look at Val’s breasts for the whole comic!”
The paint sketch makes me sad :’(
November 23rd, 2007 at 8:03 am
Finished the next page, it’ll go up when Chris and Bobby wake up ( all 3 of us are nocturnal), maybe around 3-4 PM pacific time. TFZ is an extra WLB in it, you guys will love it (and hate him).
November 23rd, 2007 at 8:16 am
The first thing I did was try and figure out how AFP isn’t really dead. Did the stake go in high and to the right, is WLB that much of a spaz, can AFP come back when the stake is removed, blah blah blah…
…then I caught myself. One of the things I like about this story and the style it’s told in is that you’re not using cheap hollywood “feel good” techniques. Dead is dead. We may all want AFP alive, he’s a badass and in an apparently hopeless situation, though somehow he still seemed in control of it. He’ll be missed but I’m sure we won’t have his sacrifice and our feeling of loss diminished by him coming back.
Suck it up and bow your heads, lesser beings. Addison Fucking Payne died fine. Rest In Peace, #1 well dressed badass.
That being said, any plans for a prequel? It sure would be nice to see AFP as a younger vampire, any or all of the main characters really.
November 23rd, 2007 at 8:29 am
“# Jae Says:

You are talking about conjointed twins, one has the heart on the left side, the other one on the right one. BUT BOBBY SAID A GAZILLION TIMES THAT AFP IS DEAD AND WON’T COME BACK EXCEPT IN FLASHBACKS. LIKE DUMBLEDORE.
November 23rd, 2007 at 8:30 am
Thats excelent news Owen – I was just about to become a whiny little bitch and ask about the next update again (You probably noticed that I whine about it every once in a while.. you know… without a comic for 64 hours… i change! =P )
And just to be a little bit encouraging – keep up the excelent work drawing the comic, Owen =)
November 23rd, 2007 at 9:52 am
where is rage during all this?
November 23rd, 2007 at 10:02 am
“where is rage during all this?”
Chained from toes to neck.
November 23rd, 2007 at 10:31 am
R.I.P. Addison etc, its all been said already
“That being said, any plans for a prequel? It sure would be nice to see AFP as a younger vampire, any or all of the main characters really.”
I realise that James above mentioned a similar idea for one of the kids, but wouldn’t it be hilarious to see Addison with an Afro in ’70s ish flashback, if any. I realise it wouldn’t really work, but if everybody just thinks about it right now… shaking the head… priceless…
November 23rd, 2007 at 11:28 am
He is most likley chained so much he is nothing more than a bundle of chains. You can’t even see his face he is chained so much.
November 23rd, 2007 at 11:43 am
I’m betting barbed wired was used. He’s do busy enjoying the pain to notice anything else.
November 23rd, 2007 at 1:31 pm
actually krasno, there are rare cases where all the bodies organs are flipped to the oppisite side
heres a link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dextrocardia
ya for wikipedia
November 23rd, 2007 at 1:56 pm
You may have killed him Frances but Addison Fucking Payne is still more badass than you!
November 23rd, 2007 at 1:58 pm
If Rage and Francis got into a brawl would Francis destroy Rage since you told us that he is pretty much all powerful and stuff?
November 23rd, 2007 at 2:27 pm
Rage cannot lose! He is Rage! And he’s angry! Excuse the horrible pun.
November 23rd, 2007 at 2:29 pm
If Francis would lose a one-on-one duel with AFP (as Bobby said) then Rage would certainly beat Francis IMHO.
November 23rd, 2007 at 2:54 pm
After I read this, I ran around the house several times in disbelief, re-opened the page, and then checked again.
Well, i wasn’t hallucinating, I guess.
RIP, AFP.
*Cries*
Well, at least he made some extremely ‘cryptic’ reference to Sofia… whoever she is. Mmmmmmmmmmm Cliffies!
Can’t wait ’till monday.
November 24th, 2007 at 12:24 pm
Aw damnit, of COURSE the coolest one has to die.
Wah.
Great work as always, Bobby and Owen.
RIP AFP
November 24th, 2007 at 3:58 pm

Someone better kill that little bitch REAL soon
December 9th, 2007 at 10:40 pm
