Page 111: Addison’s Case
Friday, December 7th, 2007One more page to go! It’ll be up tomorrow night! Finished it in under a year — not too bad. Now I gotta write the damn thing (last page) and figure out the last lines and hopefully make it all fit! Currently planning to then post selected screenplay pages as updates while you wait for the second graphic novel to start, hopefully in less than a month.

@Idhan – Somehow, I don’t think vodka reverts vampires. AFP will have put some concoction into the vodka bottles, either mixed with vodka, or neat. Probably neat, and the vodka bottles were just recycled from his empties.

I’m really enjoying the ending to this comic.. it’s kinda like.. well, here we are.. everything is starting to look like it’ll come out positively. It’d be interesting to see if the world was repopulated via half-bloods or if Math and some others would revert back to their human form to procreate.
Hopefully 24 hours and I’ll have my answer.

Well, Bobby, here it is, one page from the end. I don’t know why I’m doing this now, maybe just because I feel like doing it before everyone else starts, but: Thank you for a truly awesome comic. I have never found a webcomic that I actually believed to be great–plenty of decent ones, but this is the first time I can say one is great.
You’ve got great talent; I hope you go far.

Dude, I can so see that as being a huge comedy shot in the flick.
The camera starts to pan away just a little, and the ~flashback~ music starts to cue up for what the audience can only suspect as being some sort of exposition, only to have Math just snap it back to the hear and now with a solid and decisive delivery of that line.
Good work thus far, people. I can’t wait to see the dismount.

There seems to be a bit of chemistry between Mac and Devian. Are they gonna hook up in any sequel?
And yes i am aware the Devian is born a vamp and thus cant be human so them having sex would create a freaky mutant child.

Bobby and Owen i have to Say i Love this Comic so Freaking Much Since i started reading it back when it was in the 70′s area of pages or so, Hope The Next Graphic novel doesn’t take to long.

i have one minon issue with the comic from a purely aesthetic point. the note’s paper is curving but the text isn’t.
otherwise it’s a great comic. she’s a bit hasty isn’t she? “if me and you were to…”

The idea of cure in the vodka bottles is the best thing ever. Vodka is awesome drink. Only when cool, but still awesome. You should start production of your own vodka!
This is another masterpiece – Owen’s art is getting better and better!
Plus, the dialog from the first panel will fit in to a comedy about vampires. I think it will be good hing to keep these lines in the movie, it will chill the audience after so much action.

Did Addison also leave instructions on how to make more of the cure? Would it be possible for people to figure out how to make more? Could they use notes from Addison’s lab (wherever that is, and assuming he had a lab)?
I don’t suppose the cure will be utterly vital in the future, but it could still be very useful.
Oh, and on the subject of Addison Payne:
“He was mostly needed to fight major diseases that spring up every once in a while and to tip the balance in major conflicts that had the chance to kill insanely large amounts of people.†(page 102)
I take it this means Math was wrong when he said that Addison was responsible for most of the great medical advances of the last thousand years.

Of course, the population is very small right now, so the chance of a major disease springing up (and thus the need for vaccines to fight them) is practically negligible at the moment, but this will change as the population grows. However, since Math was wrong about Addison being responsible for all of the great medical advances over the last thousand years, I assume he also overstated Addison’s importance with regards to saving humanity from major diseases.
I really like how you still drop subtle (and not so subtle) hints about what is going to follow the end of this comic, even though the comic is very rushed near the end. I hope Devian doesn’t decide to become human*; the ability to fly is just to cool to lose!
*Bobby said earlier that if Devian were to turn someone, they wouldn’t be able to fly like her, but they would be able to jump really high. I suspect that this means that Devian must have been born a vampire, because otherwise she wouldn’t be able to fly. In this case, she would have to remain a vampire no matter what. Thus, Devian X Mac = not human!

It seems to me these last few pages have been rushed, in the story telling. I know the desire to finish the story where and when you said you would. I don’t know, I’d rather it go an extra page or 5 to finish the story without having it seemed rushed and hurried.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m an avid reader since about 6 weeks ago when I found this webcomic. The story was pretty damn killer. SOme of the twists and turns have been memorable, and the characters nearly unforgetable.
I hope this doesn’t seem like I’m trying to nitpick a great comic, with great art, and a badassed story. I just felt I had to mention the rushedness I felt in these past pages…

Actually the whole thing makes sense. AFP considered all the options and restoring turned vampires back to human covers the need for breeding stock to make sure that humanity is once again given a chance to continue on. The fact that the ‘cure’ (if that indeed is what it is) doesn’t work on born vampires means that the vampire race will also continue.
Add into the mix that the humans (original 23 and the new ex-vamps) are aware of the existence of vampires and will be greatful for the help provided. This would the two races to regrow their numbers *together* and be reborn as symbiotic pairing and will be that much stronger for it.

This is something I’ve been hoping for ever since I found out what was in the case.
I have thought from the beginning that April and Math would make a cute couple. Now Math’ll be human and they can both contribute to repopulation.
This whole idea really makes sense. If a vampire is able to reproduce then they should still possess that when they return to being human.

I knew there was a good reason why I wanted “For those of us” instead of just “For those” in the line, but anyway, decided to remove “of us” for two reasons: #1, to save space, have less cursive for Owen to write and make it so the writing didn’t have to be so small, and #2, because Addison’s dead and knew he would die, so it seemed strange to me for him to be saying “us” when he’s gone. Eh, probably best to leave it this way. From the start my plan was for the “cure” to also bring zombies back to life, but only zombies that hadn’t received fatal injuries, only ones that went through the full 24 hours after receiving non-life threatening injuries when they got bit. For some reason I decided to abandon that, though. My memory’s so bad nowadays, jeez. It was also going to be a serum that you’d have to give yourself a shot of, but I changed it to a potion you have to drink just a couple days ago actually, for various reasons. Anyway, we’ll see what happens in the sequel. Might work on certain zombies, might not.

Awww, I was hoping on the idea of curing the zombies, however… not curing them now creates a new possibility, a new idea for the sequel and thus make it more dramatic. it would be awesome if it was curable, but in a difficult way, the same way a vampire can be killed, but you have to get close enough with a stake. We’ll see what you do with the sequel, and who is Sophia.
I’m loving the page. He’s Addyson Fucking Paine and this is his last gift to the world. Thanks Bobby and Owen for these 111 soon to be 112. This is the proper time to say “thanks for the great comic.”.

Y’know, all due respect, but I actually liked the original panel 2 of pg. 104 – why mess with perfection? I can see what Owen was doing, and there is nothing wrong with the new one, but the original had a sort of feeling of helplessness and surprise that the new one, with it’s straight out stiff-armed disgust, loses. *shrug* What do I know, I’m not an artist and I’m second-guessing you-guys, and this is your world, so *smacks self* Never mind. Anyway.
