Screenplay Page 1
Tuesday, December 25th, 2007Her what?! I want to know what happens to Wendy, my favorite character!
As a reminder, I’m going to be posting selected screenplay pages on days when there isn’t a new comic. The script is not done yet and it’s just the first draft. There is already guaranteed to be lots of significant changes from the graphic novel, though, many of which I knew of while writing the comic, like things that were cut for time (112-page maximum for the GN, which translates to far less pages of a screenplay). I won’t be posting every page and I plan to finish the screenplay in 3-4 weeks.
Merry Christmas to all!

December 25th, 2007 at 11:20 pm
Oh dear, the suspense. Wendy gonna get eaten!
December 25th, 2007 at 11:26 pm
Cool. Can’t wait for page 2.
December 25th, 2007 at 11:29 pm
ZOMG! what happens next!?!
Will her petrified gaze be enough to warn her friend!?!?
Will She ever be able to scream before her doom!?!
Does she like to eat hamburgers!?1
I must know ^^
ahh lol.
anyway It’s actually pretty cool lol.
December 25th, 2007 at 11:30 pm
Um… you named the one getting et Marissa here:
http://www.lastblood.net/main/2007/01/01/so-juicy-sweet/
Score one for trivia memory!
December 25th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
“Um… you named the one getting et Marissa here”
Ha, yeah. They all get et, and that was basically a joke saying that I decided to name that girl Marissa back then — name didn’t matter for the comic, since it wasn’t mentioned. I wouldn’t have even remembered that if it wasn’t for Anko mentioning it in her FAQ. When I read the part about Marissa I was like “What? I don’t remember that AT ALL.”
December 25th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
cool, wonder what happens next =p (she gets bitten, i know…)
who says screenplays are boring =p
December 25th, 2007 at 11:43 pm
You made Screenplays awesome.
And holy crap Anko. You posted one minute after they posted this.
December 26th, 2007 at 3:47 am
*nods solemnly* I can see it. Which is, obviously, a good thing no one but me gives a damn about… Still, quite the amount of bounciness going on, so it can be of some concern to others…
Nice start bobby, can’t wait to read more and ohh, look-it
I’ll mail you now about the short! Go me *cough*
The HummingBird ~ off to mail
December 26th, 2007 at 4:13 am
Sounds nice - and it will be very cool if the walk on the ocean floor has some slow creepy music in background
This movie can have the potential to put all that “Dawn of the Dead” crap to shame - because it offers something original in terms of plot and characters.
December 26th, 2007 at 5:29 am
and so it begins … now if they only had a website to promote and vote on screenplays posted on the web … still a good way to keep it on the charts though LOL
December 26th, 2007 at 7:58 am
Sweet Bobby! That’s awsome! Now all I have left to look forward to is the first page of the second GN!
December 26th, 2007 at 8:12 am
Ooooo, I can’t wait for the next GN…I think I’m going into Last Blood withdrawl.
December 26th, 2007 at 9:50 am

December 26th, 2007 at 10:20 am
sweet:d i can see it for my eyes:d:d
December 26th, 2007 at 10:33 am
isn’t this the same that happens on the first 3/4 pages of the first comic?
December 26th, 2007 at 11:38 am
“isn’t this the same that happens on the first 3/4 pages of the first comic?”
…Yeeees Pablo. It’s the screenplay for the GN to be made into a movie.
December 26th, 2007 at 12:31 pm
Bobby Crosby Says:
December 25th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
- uhm?
“Anko” VS “Bobby Crosby” => 1:0
:oP
December 26th, 2007 at 2:27 pm
I can’t wait till this movie gets made!
December 26th, 2007 at 2:48 pm
hmmm… interesting.
December 26th, 2007 at 3:04 pm
Love the graphic novel, and have been reading a few of your other comics/movie comics ( i.e Marry me ) and was wondering if you had any advice for someone who would like to get into both the web comic, and movie “business”
awesome comics
cant wait for the movies
Loss
December 26th, 2007 at 3:43 pm
If you mean from a writing perspective, my advice is to think of a very good and original idea. After that, which is the toughest and most important part, it gets way too complicated to get into here! Not a fan of giving general advice. I’ll answer specific questions if you have any.
December 26th, 2007 at 6:38 pm
Awesomeness. I hope this gets picked up by someone big
December 26th, 2007 at 10:32 pm
Now you just need a kickass metal song for the intro. Ravenous by Arch Enemy is pretty on-point I’d say.
December 26th, 2007 at 11:14 pm
Awesome :3
December 27th, 2007 at 11:51 am
WENDY! OMG NOT WEND…who’s Wendy and why do we care….?BUT WE DO CARE!
December 27th, 2007 at 1:43 pm
Hey. I may have missed something, but do we ever get to find out more about the tornado that took out the town’s power supply. It seemed way to coincidental that the one town that matters also had a tornado hit the first day of the invasion. Maybe I missed something in the comments, but do we ever learn more about that?
or was it just a coincidence?
December 27th, 2007 at 1:51 pm
hippytree: Read the comments for the page called “Tornado” for the answers to all your questions. Also, the tornado thing may be removed from the screenplay because so many people like you strangely act as if it was “way to coincidental,” which is pointless, though, since it wasn’t necessary for anything important in the film (as that comments page goes into detail about). They could have made up any old lie to the kids to keep them in the dark about the zombies, or they could have just let the kids know all about the zombies! It’s not like that’s absolutely necessary to the story — barely matters at all.
December 27th, 2007 at 3:29 pm
This well be so worth the wait when it comes out
-M
December 27th, 2007 at 10:08 pm
I still say you stick with some sort of power outage, it seems nicest. And you get to keep that badass-awsome line “Make sure they see the end of the movie”
December 28th, 2007 at 2:15 am
Will “Big Black” be named in the movie? XD
December 28th, 2007 at 4:17 am
Grym: Confused. Either way we’d get to keep that. The power would go out no matter what. The tornado simply makes the power go out like 3-7 days sooner than it would have otherwise. But even if they had normal power we’d get to keep the line! I don’t understand how the two things are related.
December 28th, 2007 at 8:36 am
Go for it Bobby! You and Owen have been doing great with the comic, can’t wait to see the movie version!
December 28th, 2007 at 10:21 am
So utterly excited for the second graphic novel.
December 28th, 2007 at 12:06 pm
-Ooooo, I can’t wait for the next GN…I think I’m going into Last Blood withdrawl. -
Yeah. I KNOW I’m in Last Blood withdrawl. On Christmas, I checked the page…meh, about five times per hour to see whether there had been an update. Before that, I was walking around the house in a daze, muttering ‘twenty-four’ under my breath and giggling to myself. Naturally, the family confirmed their suspiscions that I was barking mad.
And now, I’m freaking out because I’m going out of town tmm. morning and I won’t have computer access and I won’t be able to read the page when it comes up and I’m going to spontaneously combust… *gasps for breath* and…and…and… *giggles manically* My brain will snap like a snapping thing.
December 28th, 2007 at 12:16 pm
LMAO ’cause I got a t-shirt that says ‘I LOVE MATH’ for christmas. Yeah, I know, it means ‘math’ like the school subject, but… *smiles evilly* now it’s my Last Blood t-shirt!!
Anyway… Hey, Bobby: I’m a little confused about this: Are you going to post a page of the screenplay one day, and then the next day (or whenever) you’ll post a page of the GN, going every other one? (And is it still going to be the M-W-F schedule?) Or are you just going to post whatever is ready?
Either way is good, since we still get the stuff, but I was just wondering since LB is (sadly) the highlight of my day/week/whatever…
Thanx
December 28th, 2007 at 12:19 pm
“And is it still going to be the M-W-F schedule?”
It hasn’t been MWF for months. Things will go up whenever they go up — not sure when. The goal is to show a screenplay page every single day that there’s not a comic page, but I’ve already been failing at that!
December 28th, 2007 at 6:25 pm
Nice, any offers yet?
December 29th, 2007 at 12:31 am
I like your style of writing in the screenplay. It’s just descriptive enough to letyou know what is going on but not enough to overburden the page with text.
hippytree: The tornado makes sense to me in it helps explain the power outage and it makes the town’s isolation more understandable. Besides, if it weren’t for the tornado, April’s grandmother would’ve still been alive and it could’ve made for a WHOLE lot of awkwardness with the arrival of TFZ. But then if she hadn’t died there could’ve been a touching reunion between SD and April’s grandmother. That could be passing into the realm of cliche though.
It’s late (or early here). I’m going to go now before I babble people to death.
December 29th, 2007 at 9:46 am
you guys freakin’ rock! Can’t wait until the second novel…I’m waiting with baited breath!
December 29th, 2007 at 10:32 am
haha lol shes guna get eatin shes guna get eatin
December 29th, 2007 at 12:44 pm
“The goal is to show a screenplay page every single day that there’s not a comic page, but I’ve already been failing at that!”
We’ll all still come back every day, so take as long as you need to to do it right. It’s been masterfully done so far, don’t compromise the quality to satisfy the clock.
Now hurry up and post another one, I can’t stand waiting!
December 30th, 2007 at 11:01 am
Bobby Crosby is a genius. His work is like crack.
Can I only buy these comics online (”Marry me” too!)? How can I find out what happens next?
December 30th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
“Can I only buy these comics online (â€Marry me†too!)? How can I find out what happens next?”
You can buy them online or check your local comic book store and have them order it for you which you can then buy through their store. Otherwise, online.
And wait until the next GN starts. =D
December 31st, 2007 at 8:27 pm
“Grym: Confused. Either way we’d get to keep that. The power would go out no matter what. The tornado simply makes the power go out like 3-7 days sooner than it would have otherwise. But even if they had normal power we’d get to keep the line! I don’t understand how the two things are related.”
Sorry, I think I misinterpereted what you said.
“On Christmas, I checked the page…meh, about five times per hour to see whether there had been an update.”
I do this every day.
December 31st, 2007 at 11:56 pm
Bobby:
can we look forward to something soon?
Happy new year to you all too.

Been a while lads. Brilliant comic. Congrats to Bobby and Owen once again for a job expertly perpetrated.

January 2nd, 2008 at 7:01 pm
I just wanted to drop in and re-congratulate you two for the excellent material you have produced, and to encourage you to keep going. I’m getting my friends more and more into vampire and zombie stories so I can introduce them to this.
January 2nd, 2008 at 11:12 pm
12/21/07 - “The second graphic novel will begin WITHIN 10 DAYS FOR SURE, POSSIBLY ON CHRISTMAS DAY.”
12/25/07 - Screenplay, no GN.
01/03/08 - meh
Here’s my screenplay:

Okay, Ashrael left! Now let’s break out second gn we were hiding from him!
And the good wine!
January 3rd, 2008 at 3:27 pm
“…and before she can scream her…”
…fool head off at the zombie closing in on her, a Big Fucking Shark breaks the waters surface, grabbing the decaying body and dragging it under. The BFS and TFZ churn the water to foam with their epic struggle as the three young girls run screaming onto the beach as others in the area take notice. Those in the water leave it quickly, those on the beach run towards the water to see what’s happening. As quickly as it began, the fight is over.
(BFS swims slowly away from the area, fin above water. camera follows a short time then stops, BFS swims off screen left)
(camera sweeps back towards beach, a single scrap of cloth is the only evidence that the zombie ever existed)
fade out
—————
Ok, so that’s not as good as I’m sure the real one will be, but there’s nothing new posted and Scrubs reruns aren’t on for another twenty minutes and I’m bored.
January 3rd, 2008 at 7:25 pm

Just kidding–Two major holidays in the same week, you can’t be expected to post the (sighs) first page of LB GN 2 right away…. BUT YOUR FANS ARE GOING INSANE!! POST SOON PLEASE!!

yay!
January 4th, 2008 at 9:44 am
Amen!
January 8th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
I don’t know if this matters to you, but technically your screenplay is out of format.
The following words: SCATTER, HATCH OPENS, OCCUPENT, COFFIN, HALF ROTTED, CREDITS, SHARK, TEENAGE GIRLS, and GASPS should not be captilized. Names i’m a little unsure on - I think they are only in caps the first time they appear, and when it’s designating who is speaking - but that issue doesent come up on this page.
Addionally, it’s considered out of format to specify in the “scene line” to describe the time as anything but “Day” or “Night,” dawn TECHNICALLY should be in the description of what the scene looks like/where it is. Cueing the credits is also something that is not typically done in the screenplay. There are also too many spaces in the intial description - “HATCH OPENS” should not be in it’s own line.
Of course, this is according to “textbook” rules according to the text of my screenwriting course last semester. (We had to write the first 60 pages of a feature STRICTLY to format, and we werent allowed to write about anything interesting, so I have sixty generic pages about a guy working in a comic store. We were encoraged to copy “the odd couple,” as a type of storyline because it’s basic and it’s an easy first right. It’s sarcasticly riviting.)
Considering you’ve said several times that you will may wind up shooting this movie yourself, none of this may matter to you - if you DID plan on pitching it to a studio, please invest in a detailed book on screenwriting and formatting. A screenplay is like a resume, they only look at it for a minute or two tops before deciding if it’s worth picking up. Often having “too many” or “too few” pages is enough to put you out. (This is on account of the assumption that one page=one minute, and long movies are expensive, short movies don’t make enough money)
Sometimes scripts get rejected for having the wrong color card-stock on the cover.
You have the font right though.
Studios are absurdly picky about screenplay format.
Just in case you wanted to know.
January 8th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
Sean: Absolutely everything you just said is wrong. You know absolutely nothing about screenplays and how they’re written. You should get your money back from that class. I’ve read over 30 screenwriting books and I’m basically an expert on the subject. I bought six more last week. I suggest reading the columns at wordplayer.com, like this one –
http://www.wordplayer.com/columns/wp23.Points.for.Style.html
You’ll also find examples of almost everything you criticized in this script –
http://www.script-o-rama.com/movie_scripts/a/air-force-one-script-screenplay.html
And in basically all scripts, except maybe “The Odd Couple” apparently!
January 9th, 2008 at 1:47 am
Bobby:
Huh. I could have sworn the rules on caps were more specific then that, but it was a few semesters ago - i’ll have to dig up my old text and see what I can find.
I would have to disagree that my comment was “absolutely” wrong in every way - It IS true that one of the first thing a studio looks at is length, and many scripts are tossed out for being too long, and although it may not be technically against format, producers dislike writers “directing” from the script (cueing the credits in your case,) because it upsets Directors and all that heiarchy nonsense. Still, neither of those are technically format points, so I’m still wrong - I guess I didn’t retain as much from that class as I thought.
Universitys don’t typically issue refunds for classes completed, and it’s irrelevent anyway screenwriting was just a neccissary credit I need for my major - I don’t intend to be a writer, I’m focusing mostly on post-production. Regardless of that, errors in this post or my last post are more a likely more of a result of my faulty memory rather than poor instruction. My faith in my instructors knowledge over my memory holds on account that I know he has sold screenplays that have seen production and distribution, and I have no doubt that experience often wins over the well read. (Not tha I am suggesting that you do not have experience and have not sold screenplays. I have no idea what you have or have not done.)
Apparently i’m neither very expereinced nor well read in this subject. (Good thing I don’t intend to be a screenwriter.)
Eh, I guess the short version of this is NEVERMIND, I screwed up.
January 9th, 2008 at 2:04 am
Once again you just said a bunch of insanely retarded crap. I’m not gonna waste time going over every fucking point right now — I suggest reading all the columns at wordplayer.com, which I’ve read more than five times each in the past decade. They’re the best screenwriting (and writing in general) resource in the world. Also, you’re a disgustingly horrible person and if you want to try to become a better person I suggest not insanely telling people that they definitely screwed something up when you’re 100% wrong about it and have no clue what the fuck you’re talking about. Again, you’re disgusting and you’re banned for a third time now (this one will stick).
January 19th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
LOL…
Must have thought you were going at this blind to post such things. I find the layout “odd” for leisurely reading purposes, but I know nothing about the process anyway.
In case you don’t hear it enough: Amazing job gentlemen! Keep up the fantastic work. (yea yea… posting way the hell after everyone else. I read the content right after Xmas and only now read all the comments).
January 22nd, 2008 at 9:54 pm
THIS IS THE BEST PAGE SO FAR!
June 19th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
Wow! I’ve been reading the First Blood comic from beginning to here in one day, and I love it!
I’ve always wanted to write screenplays, and seeing this renews it. Hope to see it when/if it become a movie. Keep up the great work.
